Gray Matters: How the Brain Works

Course number : SI100
« back to classes page
In 1994, Nobel scientist Francis Crick wrote, “You, your joys, your sorrows, your memories, and ambitions, your sense of personal identity, are in fact no more than the behavior of a vast assembly of nerve cells and their associated molecules.” This course will explore Dr. Crick’s “astonishing hypothesis” by studying the basic organization and functional capabilities of the human brain. We will also look at how emerging technologies have begun to make the mind accessible to scientific inquiry and permit us to better understand the basis of human behavior. No scientific background is necessary.
