Method: Shared inquiry discussion allows everyone to read and enjoy great works of literature. Discussion is based on the text at hand and only that text.
Material: The text is Identity and Self-Respect from the Great Books Reading and Discussion Program and can be purchased online at Amazon or the Great Books Foundation bookstore.
Assignment: Before the first class, please read The Fire Next Time (selection) by James Baldwin. Additional readings this term include Phaedo by Plato (online); A Real Life, Alice Munro; A Room of One’s Own (selection), Virginia Woolf; A Dull Story, Anton Chekhov; The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot; The Adventures of Augie March, Saul Bellow. One additional reading will be added later.

Students will need to have the following in order to participate in this class:
  • Laptop or Desktop Computer with both audio and video capabilities or external webcam and speaker

  • Access to Zoom Video platform
