In this course, students will read and understand the universality of the human experience through the eyes of the playwright. We will read several one-act plays by playwrights who also use their own life experiences as material for their work in the collection Favorite One Act Plays edited by Bennett Cerf and Van H. Cartmell. The first play to be read is The Devil and Daniel Webster by Stephen Vincent Benet. The full-length play is: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. Students will participate in reading parts as a way to further understand the play. The texts are available online or from local bookstores.
