Florida Criminal Defense Attorney 
Derek Byrd graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac University School of Law in Hamden, CT. He is licensed in all state courts and the federal court, Middle District of Florida, and is Florida Bar Certified as a criminal trial attorney. A past president of Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, he has appeared as a legal commentator on numerous television and cable TV networks.
Byrd will talk with us about Florida’s tough-on-crime laws and the need for reform of Florida’s Criminal Justice System. Florida has one of the largest and most expensive prison systems in the country. In the 2017-18 fiscal year, Florida spent $2.4 billion on corrections and another $570 million on juvenile justice administration to hold 100,000 people behind bars.
