Working with sheet metal and pop rivets, students will learn the basics of working with metal to design and create their own sculptural light fixture or mobile. This class will begin with a brief look back at how both artists and designers have used this material and process, and will focus on how students can implement 3D design elements such as volume, line, and plane in their own work. Each student will receive step by step instruction on how to transform their designs on paper to become illuminated metal sculptures through the use of both hand tools and machines. All skill levels are welcome. All supplies are provided. Closed toe shoes (not crocs) are required in the studios/labs.
