Course number : WR101
« back to classes page
Children and Young Adult fiction are two of the many popular genres today. Develop your storytelling skills in this interactive class that focuses on writing for young readers. We will survey various forms of fiction and nonfiction, from picture books to magazine pieces to longer works for middle schoolers and young adults. Through discussion of readings, videos, and craft advice from professionals, we will examine the essential elements of telling a tale and tailoring it to a Pre-K-12 audience. Student goals will drive the focus of this class. What are you writing or aspiring to write? In-class exercises will spur you to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), and peer workshopping will help you identify the most promising threads in your unfolding narrative(s). We will also touch upon the publication process.
