This series examines travel and discovery before 500 CE. It will chronicle actual voyages, focusing on the remarkable figures who braved the unknown, the objects of their journeys, and their crude equipment and knowledge. We will look into the earliest inventions in travel technology, geographical knowledge in ancient times, and our earliest accounts of exploration, including expeditions of the Egyptians. Next will be the renowned Greek and Carthaginian explorers who ventured into Africa, the north seas,  and Asia. We will look at expeditions of the Romans, who attempted to find a sea passage to India, and finally, the journeys of the early Chinese explorers.
