Anton Chekhov: A Deeper Look (OLLI)

Chekhov ranks in the very front row of the greatest writers
not only of Russia’s Golden Age but of world literature.
His minimalist and sometimes moody style was profoundly
affecting and anticipated much of the literary tendencies of
the 20th century. The class will read and discuss a variety
of his most notable short fiction as well as one of his
pathbreaking plays.

Week 1: "Lady With the Dog," "Revenge,"
and "The Complaints Book"
Week 2: "The Little Trilogy" — The Man in a Case, About
Love, and Gooseberries"
Week 3: "The Kiss" and "Peasants"
Week 4: "In the Ravine" and "At Home"
Week 5: "Ward No. 6"
Week 6: "The Cherry Orchard"
